10 Record Store Day Release Highlights—and Their Older School Alternatives

Earlier this week, the Record Store Day organization announced the complete list of 2019 releases. As the annual list always does, it includes a wide-ranging assortment of reissues, rarities, live albums, new releases, and all sorts of other elusive goodies. With over 500 releases slated to hit stores on April 13, it's a lot to sift through. Today, we're showcasing a smattering of our favorites.

If you're feeling a bit impatient or maybe just don't relish having to get up early to wait in line on the big day itself, we're also including some currently available alternatives to the new editions you can snag on Reverb LP today.

Alice Clark

Alice Clark

Not much is known about Alice Clark apart from the cult-like status her music has achieved with generations of British club-goers and soul aficionados. This RSD release brings her self-titled record, once the stuff of crate digging legend, to new life with a deluxe suite of notes, photographs, and other materials to tell Clark's story. It's sure to be an interesting package, but if it's just the songs you need, you can snag the Complete Studio Recordings compilation from BPG Records.

World of David Bowie

David Bowie

This Bowie compilation was originally released in 1970 with a combination of tracks from Bowie's debut and unreleased material. It's been out of print since 1981, so the RSD release presents a great opportunity for any Bowie completists. Can't wait? You can snag an original copy of this early Bowie comp right over here.
Can't-Wait Alternative: An Older Pressing of the Same

Seattle Easy Street 2005

Pearl Jam

Pearl Jam are serving as the RSD global ambassadors this year. To mark the occasion, they are serving their rabid cult following a vinyl release of a storied stripped-back performance that was previously only available on CD. Pearl Jam have released a ton of different live recordings over the years, so if you're interesting in hearing some live tracks from the quintet, you have plenty to choose from.

Born Under a Bad Sign (Mono)

Albert King

Albert King's Born Under a Bad Sign ranks as one of the most influential blues records of all time, and with this release, Craft Recordings—who have released a number of fine reissues from original analog tapes—are offering a mono edition of this classic.

"Buried Deeper Within / Impact (The Cursed Earth Mix)"

Orbital's standout 1993 track "Impact (The Earth is Burning)" is still popular with DJs and is experiencing something of resurgence of late (thanks in part, perhaps, to Eris Drew's championing of the track). With this release, ACP is giving us a new mix of this electronic classic on a double A-side 12-inch.

Evans in England

Bill Evans

Recorded at London's landmark Ronnie Scott's, this newly discovered live recording features Evans alongside bassist Eddie Gomez and drummer Marty Morell. While there are already quite a few Evan's recordings from this era in circulation, for fans, this should be a welcome opportunity to hear a new set.

Woodstock Sunday August 17, 1969

Janis Joplin

Janis Joplin was known for her live performances, and as such, there have been a lot of live Janis Joplin recordings issued over the years. For this RSD, the pyschedelic icon's set from Woodstock is being offered in full on vinyl for the first time.

E. 1999 Eternal

Bone Thugs-N-Harmony

Coming out on vinyl for the first time this year, E. 1999 Eternal was a smash success for Bone Thugs, selling over 20 million copies worldwide. This record came out just after the death of the group's mentor and producer, Eazy-E, and was dedicated to his legacy.

Boy Meets Girl: Classic Stax Duets

Another release by Craft Recordings, this collection of duets from '60s Stax singers includes duets from Eddie Floyd and Mavis Staples, William Bell and Carla Thomas, Delaney and Bonnie Bramlett, and one from Dusty Springfield and Spencer Davis. If the notion of a classic Stax duet piques your interest, check out Otis Redding and Carla Thomas' King & Queen, which was the last studio record released during Otis' lifetime.

This Is The Devo Box

Can't-Wait Alternative: Devo's First Six Records
There's not a ton of info on this release yet, but presumably, it'll be a vinyl version of a six-CD set previously released in Japan that included Devo's first six albums. The box will probably also include some bonus material and tracks, but if you have an uncontrollable urge for some Devo in your life sooner, you can, of course, just snag copies of these readily available records at any point.
